Why Slatebrook
Structured work, clear fees, no ambiguity about what you are buying
The value of working with Slatebrook is not in what we promise — it is in how we work. Defined scope. Written outputs. Direct access to the people doing the work. Fees that do not change without discussion.

Six things that distinguish how we work
Written deliverables
Every engagement ends with a document — not a presentation, not a verbal debrief. The output is yours to use, share and reference without us present.
Published, fixed fees
Our fees are listed publicly and do not change once an engagement is agreed. There is no hourly billing, no retainer creep and no invoice surprises.
Direct practitioner access
You communicate with the consultant assigned to your file — not with an account manager. Your questions are answered by the person who read your materials.
Defined scope, respected
Scope is agreed before work begins and not expanded without your explicit approval. If something outside the brief appears relevant, we raise it — but we do not bill for it unilaterally.
Confidential handling
What you share with us stays within the engagement. We do not use client materials in other contexts, share details with other clients or retain information beyond what is necessary.
Flexible monthly advisory
The Sounding-Board arrangement can be paused and resumed without penalty. Franchise timelines change; our advisory arrangement adjusts to match your actual pace.
In more detail
What each of those points means in practice
Domain experience, not generalist consulting
Slatebrook's consultants have spent substantial time inside franchise systems — not observing them from the outside, but working in development and operations roles within actual franchise organisations. The frameworks we use in readiness reviews and manual outlines are drawn from that direct experience.
This matters because franchise development has a particular logic. A general business consultant unfamiliar with the sector can produce a polished document that misses the practical questions a prospective franchisee or franchisor lawyer will ask immediately. Our assessments are written by people who know those questions.
Relevant background
- Direct experience in F&B, retail and service franchise systems
- In-house development and operations roles, not only advisory
- Coverage across Singapore and Southeast Asian markets
- Familiarity with Singapore Franchise Association frameworks
How the process works
- Brief intake conversation to confirm fit before any fee is charged
- Scope confirmed in writing before work begins
- Clear milestone for when materials are needed from your side
- Draft shared for review before final version is delivered
- Follow-up call included at no additional charge
A process with no surprises
We run each engagement to a defined sequence. The intake conversation establishes what you have, what you need and whether our service is actually the right fit. If it is not, we say so. If it is, scope and timeline are confirmed in writing before any work begins.
Drafts are shared before final delivery, giving you the opportunity to flag anything that needs clarification or that reflects a misunderstanding of your context. The final document is delivered on the agreed date.
Fees sized for the preliminary stage
Large franchise consulting retainers are designed for businesses that have already committed to franchising and need comprehensive support through the full development process. Slatebrook's fees reflect a different purpose — helping you assess whether and how to proceed, before that larger commitment is made.
The Franchise Readiness Review at S$680 and the Operations Manual Outline at S$140 are priced to be worth commissioning even if you ultimately decide not to franchise. The information they provide has value regardless of the direction you choose.
Our service fees (SGD)
- Franchise Readiness Review S$680
- Operations Manual Outline S$140
- Franchise Lead Sounding-Board S$370 / month
All fees are fixed and inclusive. No hourly billing. No additional charges without prior agreement.
How we compare
Slatebrook versus typical alternatives
This is not a criticism of other types of advisory — it is an explanation of where Slatebrook fits and where it does not.
| Feature | Typical large consultancy | Slatebrook |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum engagement | Typically S$5,000–20,000+ retainer | From S$140 — single project |
| Deliverable format | Slide decks, workshops, verbal briefings | Written documents — always |
| Who you work with | Account manager, delegated to junior staff | Direct with named consultant |
| Fee structure | Hourly billing or variable retainers | Fixed fees, published in advance |
| Assumes franchising is decided | Generally yes — built for implementation | No — works at the assessment stage |
| Advisory flexibility | Locked-in retainer periods | Monthly, pauseable without penalty |
What sets us apart
Distinctive features of the Slatebrook approach
No financial interest in your decision
We are paid for the assessment, not for recommending franchise expansion. If the review indicates that your business is not ready, or that the timing is poor, the report says so. Our income does not depend on your proceeding.
A draft review stage before final delivery
Both project-based engagements include a draft for your review before the final document is delivered. This is not a formality — it is a genuine opportunity to flag misunderstandings or request clarification on any section.
Sounding-Board engagements can pause and resume
The monthly advisory is designed for the reality of franchise development timelines. If your situation pauses — a lease negotiation stalls, a key decision-maker becomes unavailable — the arrangement can pause and resume without loss of continuity or penalty fees.
Follow-up call at no additional charge
After delivery of any project-based output, we include one follow-up call to walk through any section that requires elaboration. This is not billed separately — it is part of ensuring the document is actually useful to you.
